LIBRARY Beware of Holiday Colors
The United States Postal Service has deployed new technology that might make a big impact on your postage. Your overall design plays a more critical role since the USPS is using a sophisticated machine to evaluate your mailpiece called MERLIN. One of the most common problems is the use of a delivery barcode on a colored background like green or red. Orange and Brown are more popular around Halloween and Thanksgiving.
These are perfect colors for the holidays but not appropriate for the best postal rates. Since the USPS equipment sees in black and white then it can’t always distinguish the delivery point bar code on colored background. The barcode readability is mandatory to obtain the most favorable rates. The best solution is to use white, or light colored inks and paper, for the background of the address area. Attendees of Wolf Mailing’s Design Seminar last summer received information on proper mailpeice design. We will have another design seminar January for our customers on January 7th, 2003 at 9:00. This will be similar material as the prior seminars for those that need a refresher, or could not attend previously. IF you are interested please RSVP by calling our office headquarters in Oklahoma City at 405-239-6245.
If you are interested in technical aspects of your mailing then follow this link to the USPS regulations that dictate proper design http://pe.usps.gov/text/qsg/q810.htm or better yet, call one of our friendly, knowledgeable, and experienced Account Executives at Wolf Mailing before going to press. Look for more design tips in future issues of theWiredWolf.
